About 40 years ago I made this watercolor sketch from a dream image.

Almost 20 years later, I painted the first version, in acrylics. It was about 12" square, maybe 16". It was sold through a co-op gallery.

In a book of photomicrographs of minerals, I found this picture of basalt, under great magnification, that brought back the quality of the dream image from so long ago.

This collage with a quotation added to it was a page (reproduced in black and white, unfortunately) for Salon: A Journal of Aesthetics, a zine I used to publish.

Recently, I made a sketch in Photoshop for another version.

This is the 18" x 24" acrylic painting that followed.

Here's the whole progression, in a linear fashion.
