A Certain Type of Look – Estella Warren

This is the face that launched a hundred websites, and its owner majors in self-esteem. In an interview, Estella Warren speaks of "my beauty" as you or I might speak of "my fingernail." She has unique light-colored irises, the kind of untrammeled eyebrows popularized by Brooke Shields, and, it goes without saying, tousled tawny hair. But the mouth is weird. The upper lip ascends so far as to be reminiscent of a tragic birth defect. Two gigantic teeth show, and it's questionable whether the lip is capable of descending far enough to cover those teeth. Hiding in Plain Sight: Homoerotic Art

Years ago, I used to see an ad for a reproduction of this statue (from Eleganza Ltd.) in the New Yorker and wonder how they got away with printing the picture. If two live humans were photographed in this pose, it would be an obscenity bust in any state in the union. But since it’s a picture of a copy of a sculpture, then it’s all right. In essence, the fact that this item could be shown in the pages of a high-class magazine says everything there is to say about the hypocrisy of pornography laws. Hercules (or Herakles) is the one standing, and Diomede (or Diomedes) is the one grabbing his goodies. This encounter took place as one of the famous Twelve Labors of Hercules, where he had to complete a number of impossible tasks to please some god or other. Celebrities I have known, or almost She was one of the legendary women of the Sixties, and still is, Suzanne Verdal McCallister, who was also at some point Suzanne Vaillancourt. Leonard Cohen wrote a song about her. First recorded by Judy Collins in 1966, it's since been covered by more musicians than any of his others, and remains one of the emblematic love songs of a generation. In this 1998 interview , Suzanne said she and Leonard never actually were lovers, though there was an opportunity, years after the song was written, and she was the one who said no. As of 2006, Suzanne was living in her car in Venice, California, according to this article , which also says, "Verdal claims that she and Cohen never had sexual relations, contrary to what some interpretations of the song suggest."
